TODAY, Aug 4th is the LAST DAY to sign up! You can pay by credit card over the phone.
Call Aleta at the Umpqua Valley Art Association at (541) 672-2532

Good morning,
I have scouted high and low for locations for the workshop on WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
that are:

1. GORGEOUS!
2. Shady, especially for the afternoon
3. Convenient, as in bathrooms close by
4. Oh, and did I mention, GORGEOUS!

As of this morning, we didn’t have enough students to fill the class. So we have extended registration one more day. This means you can take advantage of a small, but great workshop!

The morning of Day One will be spent at Abacela (see photos). The views make me feel like I’m in France. OK, so I’ve never actually been to France, but I do watch the travel channel! At Abacela there are views of the sloping hillsides of grapes and views of the valleys below. Everywhere you look there is a painting to made!

Wednesday afternoon we will retreat to the shade to paint more intimate, close-up scenes.

Our next day will start off in the elcectic area of Jackson Street. Even if you have never painted a street scene, you will enjoy painting here. I will show you everything I can about choosing a street scene subject. I promise it will be fun and not painful!

Thursday afternoon will be STUDENT’S CHOICE of a farm scene or another beautiful vineyard.

We will conclude the workshop with a review of the work and of the material and ideas presented.

DURING the workshop, I will show you how to divide up your paper to include notes, a value sketch, color study and completed painting. I learned this from technique from Australian painter, David Taylor. It’s my FAVORITE method of on-site painting because it gives you an excellent source to work from back in your studio.

In just two days of painting, you will have wonderful references from four completely different locations. You will come away with new skills, great reference material and an enhanced appreciation of the beauty that surrounds us here in Douglas County.

HOPE you can join the fun,

Vinita

Earlier this year, I was asked by my friend Phil Bates if I was interested in filming an instructional watercolor DVD. YES! Of course I was interested. After a couple of meetings and a lot of brainstorming we filmed the DVD on a COLD weekend in January. I have never been in front of a camera before and it showed! But Phil was patient with me and we got through it. He did all the filming and editing. When I watched the first draft I was amazed at how professional it looked!

The DVD is 60 minutes long. I start out by showing basic watercolor supplies. Then I go through some simple demonstrations of how to apply the paint. I describe the color wheel and demonstrate color mixing. At the end I do a painting demonstration of a landscape. I’m really happy with the demo painting. It came out well and the viewer can see the process step-by-step.

If you are interested in purchasing the DVD, I have it up for sale over on eBay for $29.95.

Thanks Phil, Debi, Diane and all the others who made this possible!

The program is a little slow and a little clumsy I think, but wait, maybe that’s me that’s slow and…ok, I’ll give it a few more months before I condemn it to awkwardness.

As soon as I returned from the workshop in March, my family and I started working on my new studio! It was a big group effort. Most of the work was done by my husband Nick and my Dad. We also convinced every family member and friend we could to help out in one way or another!

About two months later, it’s done! The studio is about 20′ x 24′ and has large north facing windows. It is beautiful! I am so thankful to have a space of my own to paint in.

Here are some views from my studio
